“There you go. Just leave it for a while.” Adrie said as he gently dap the mixture of herbs that he concocted to heal my deep wound due to the scratch mark I received on my wrist from a vicious bloodsucking vampire.
“Thanks Adrie, you’re one good witch doctor.” I was feeling relief to have seen my wound has stop bleeding as I flashed a sweet angelic smile to Adrie. As I was about to head for the door to exit myself from his house, he immediately pulled me by my shoulder and threw me on the soft couch of his living room.
“I’m not done with you, Annika. Who says you can leave?” Adrie leaned close to me who was practically lying on my back, by then. He stared deeply into my eyes as if he was hypnotizing me with his dazzling pair of chestnut eyes while stroking my silky and lovely long brunette hair.
We never actually declared that we are together but somehow we care for each other more than ever which makes us share something special in our relationship. Best friend with benefits, perhaps?
“Do you need to know?” I could read his mind. As usual, he wanted me to explain from A-Z on how I ended up with that one nasty vampire scratch.
“Obviously, yeah! The last thing I wanna know is that Vael was being too wild on the bed! So, please don’t tell me that was the reason.” Adrie said and he did that irritating face of his whenever he mention about Vael, my boyfriend who happens to be a stunning yet gorgeous vampire. Yes, I have a vampire for a boyfriend and a witch for a best friend. Easy to say, I have the best of both worlds.
“Adrie! Vael is innocent, okay.” I assured him.
“Yeah, I’m innocent!” Vael suddenly appeared in the living room looking mysteriously wicked, donning a black velvet cloak making him glowing as his skin is palest as ever. The wind from the window opening blew his black-jet hair and his ocean-like blue eyes were glittering, truly mesmerizing makes me wonder am I really his sweetheart? Or is he some sort of fantasy of mine who only exist in my creative world of imagination.
“Barging in again, without a knock on the door?” Adrie got up and move a few inches away from me
.
“I’m a vampire, you should know vampire prefers a window more than a door, makes them more mysterious!” Vael grinned and sat next to me, stretching his hands around my shoulder. “So, what you’ve been up to with my girlfriend?” Vael seductively brush his lips under my neck.
“Vael, do you mind?” I pushed him in a playful way, wanted him to stop whatever he is doing even though I enjoy his little treat. Obviously, I wouldn’t want Adrie to watch us getting into a hot scene.
“For your info I was taking care of her, heal her wound which is done by your kind. You, vampires just don’t you have any mercy for human.” Adrie simply answered Vael with full boast.
“Hey, I do have mercy but only for my love ones.” Vael gave Adrie a wink. He then, pulled me even closer and had a look on my wound which is fully covered with some healing herbs. He studied my face too since there are few mere scratches.
“Yeah yeah” Adrie rolled his eyes and turned to me. “So who’s the bloody bastard vampire hurt you this time?” Adrie was eager to know.
“Lyra.” I said the name as clear as crystal.
“My very own sister, again? Damn you, Lyra! I thought I’ve told her to stay away from you.” Vael changed his playful mood to an enrage one.
“Thought so, I saw this coming. I did warn you, right Annika? But you wouldn’t listen. Say thank you to your dearly sister, Vael for hurting Annika.” Obviously Adrie had felt it, using his witchy instinct, it’s not a surprise that he managed to predict that something or someone will attack me, on that very night.
“Oh I will. She’ll get something special from me.” Vael said with his deep angry tone. Thus, letting me go and vanished himself in a very fast motion.
“Vael!” I said his name out loud but it was just impossible to stop him as he was already nowhere to be seen in Adrie’s house, all thanks to his vampire ability. “He’s gonna put himself into more trouble!”
“And put you in danger!” Adrie sighed and he went to comfort me, giving me a warm hug just to show how much he cares for me. “You know, you shouldn’t be going out with Vael at the first place. I know you’re actually scared, Annika. You’re scared to actually be closed with Vael every single day because his family, or should I say, more like his kind, are all against you. The reason you tried to be brave is that you wouldn’t want to hurt Vael’s feelings and you feel like you owe him big time since he had rescue you from being his sister’s prey. And better yet if you wouldn’t want to accept him, he might as well just suck your blood, am I right? Just admit that you are scared of Vael and his clan.”
Adrie could read my mind pretty well and those words he said has put me into tears. Whatever he said was true. I was actually scared of the bloodsucking creatures. Well, who wouldn’t? They feed on human’s blood for heaven’s sake! And I am a human, a mortal! Vael, my boyfriend is a vampire. He saved me from the other vampires just because he loves me. I love Vael, I love everything about him. Plus, it would be a waste if you turn down a heavenly gorgeous immortal who clearly desire to have you as his love partner. Although sometimes being with Vael, I had the feeling that fear has conquered me whole. Ever since Vael and I are together, my nightmare came to live as in I was chased by all the vampires who knew about our unconditional relationship and truthfully I was their main target. A vampire fell in love with a human just like a predator fell in love with its prey. That’s totally against the vampire rule especially if you are the pure blooded ones. In this case, let’s just say, Vael is a pure blooded vampire who strangely enough to have fallen for a human like me, his very own source of food. I appreciated Vael’s love but I just feel so insecure having him by my side. Thankfully, I have Adrie, that one blood witch who tends to look after me most of the time. He was always there for me and I admire him for that. He knew and understands me well which made me feel more connected to him rather than to Vael. At times, I wish that Vael could be more like Adrie.
Without saying any words, I just nodded and judging by the tears that have been running down my cheeks, Adrie could tell the answer was of course a ‘yes’.
“There there, you’re here with me, now. You’re safe in my arms.” Adrie hugged me even tighter but soft and gently while I was drowning myself in tears. I felt safe, safe under Adrie’s arms and I had the feeling that nothing would come and get me when Adrie is around.
That night, Adrie sent me home safely since Vael disappeared into the night without a trace, typical vampires. So, Adrie took Vael spot, instead. It has always been like that, it was all about fun when it comes to Vael’s love. Vael didn’t really show that he cares and the true meaning of his love to me. Without Vael around, Adrie did everything that he could just to make sure I will be all fine. He took good care of me for Vael. With his witchcraft knowledge, he even drew some runes around my house for the sake of protection and gave me a crystal chunk that he had cast a spell on for healing. Adrie kissed me goodnight under the moonlight in the beautiful dark sky. It was the very first time I actually felt like I’ve been sincerely loved by someone.
